Isn't this the weakest Brazil team in the history of WC? Surely Fabiano scored 3 goals but he aint in top 8 strikers in the world. Fabiano is behind so many strikers including CR9, Messi, Rooney, Torres, David Villa, Tevez, Higguain and Drogba. That is already the top eight before I add more like Eto'o and Ibracadabra.
Brazil have world cup pedigree that helps them get over world cup woes. When you ask word cup stalwarts about the best Brazillian team ever they will tell you of the Brazil of 82 having among others Vava, Socrates, Zico, Junior and Careca. In 86 they took the same team and again failed short.
When they went 24years without the trophy in 94 they realised that taking stars to the world cup was not the answer to winning the cup. Players like Rai were left out while lesser knowns like Dunga where drafted into the tean FFWD 1 month later they ended a 2 decade long wait for the WC.
In 98 & 06 when they were heavily favoured to win the thing, they had star power more than a tean to win then the tourney. In 98 it was Romario, Edmundo the Animal, a young Ronaldo, Denilson the most exensive player on earth and Roberto Carlos. In 06 it was Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Rivaldo, Adriano, et all. On both campaigns Brazil had the star names but never the teams and never won the world cups. Now Dunga seems to have a team and who knows?
But isn't it the weakest ever? Philosophically, you could argue that their weakest teams have always been when they have taken stars ahead of a functional team. This time they ve dropoed Ronaldinho, Pato and Adriano, who knows?
I am not saying they will win jack. Just admit if they are the weakest Brazilian team ever.
Ooops I forgot that they lost to a determined Hoalland team and they lack discipline too, two red cards in one tournament for Brazil? That should be a first!

I agree on Fabiano. But one thing is that he at least is a natural finisher, but as an out and out forward, he is not all that…I must say most of those are better than him… I used to prefer Fred in that position, but too bad he fizzled out. I think Fred was more balanced in terms of talent and goal scoring…

Serginho as well, if I’m not mistaken… I think 82 was a very strong side when you look at the individual positions (man for man), maybe just marginally stronger than 70. From the doc’s I saw… But to me 82, looked like a bunch of talented individuals who just happened to be wearing the same yellow shirts and blue shorts with different numbers on the backs, but where not necessarily a team as per say! That was my observation… I mean, look at 94…! 94 was a European version of Brasil except for Romario, Bebeto and Zinho (if I’m not mistaken on the names)… But they came out with a world cup! But I think I see your point…
I saw ‘’extended’’ highlights of the Paolo Rossi inspired Italy game against Brasil… I still think 82 were talented individually, but not as a unit!! So, maybe you do have a point, 82 could have been the strongest ever assembled side largely due to the talent pool they had which blotted out obvious weaknesses in defense! I can’t say for certain.
Zico failed short… Missing two penalties in one game for all that talent?!? You could be talented, but maybe you can’t handle the pressure of been one of the most talented football players ever seen at the World cup…

Rai played a game or two I think in 94…if memory serves me right… he must have scored the penalty against Russia,
I think many factors make a good team… Individual talent alone can’t constitute a good unit. Many issues have to come in play, the ability to appreciate your teammates, the ability of understanding each one of your fellow teammates, that sync that comes with some constant play with them, knowing that you all have a common goal, …etc!! A coach who also understands the situation and is able to blend all of these is very vital too…!!
Romario didn’t play 98. Ronaldo was the top man! But in my opinion, Brasil 98 played more of a team than 06… After a small bust up in the Morocco game, they re aligned, put their differences together and reached the final only to lose to Zinedine Yazid Zidane…! Tough games against Denmark and Netherlands proved their ability and their will to achieve as a team…!! When they went down to Denmark, they dug deep and fought back…, and they held off a very strong Dutch side in the semi’s…!
06 was suspicious, especially when you consider the fact that performances of Carlos and Cafu were dropping, Emerson was past his prime, Ronaldo was bulging, Adriano was always suspect to me (false alarm). I think Rivaldo missed 06, not sure though, but I agree with you… 06 was a let down… they looked promising, but after watching the Croatia game, it became worrying!
Hmmm……. Come to think of it, now you have put it in that way, I think 2010 Brasil is stronger than 06 and 98 could be at par with 02, but below 94, 82 and 70
